From November 26–29, 2025, the Shanghai International Trade Fair for Automotive Parts, Equipment, Maintenance, Testing, Diagnostics and Services (Automechanika Shanghai) will be held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai).

From rapid prototyping to small-batch production, from jigs and fixtures to lightweight functional components, 3D printing is becoming an essential tool for automotive engineering teams to improve efficiency and optimize design processes.

This time, based on real industry applications, eSUN will present a comprehensive set of 3D printing material solutions for the automotive sector.

3D printing material solutions for the automotive sector

1. Carbon Fiber Composite Reinforced Series

  • Entry-level carbon-fiber-reinforced materials: PLA-CF / PETG-CF
  • Professional carbon-fiber-reinforced materials: ABS-CF / PET-CF / PA-CF / PA12-CF

Carbon fiber composites offer higher rigidity, strength, and dimensional stability, making them an important material direction for automotive lightweighting. These materials are widely applicable for structural prototypes, high-strength jigs and fixtures, and small-batch functional parts.

2. High-Temperature Materials: ABS-HT / PC-HT

  • ABS-HT has a heat deflection temperature of 104.4°C;
  • PC-HT reaches a heat deflection temperature of 114°C and maintains excellent stability even in harsh high-temperature environments.

High-temperature materials are suitable for components around the engine compartment, thermal test parts, and other heat-exposed applications.

3. Flame-Retardant Series: ABS-FR / PET-FR

  • ABS-FR and PET-FR both meet the UL94 V-0 standard. ABS-FR is suitable for environments below 100°C, while PET-FR is suitable for environments above 100°C.

Both flame-retardant materials feature excellent electrical insulation properties.

Flame-retardant materials can be used for automotive interior components, electronic housings, pipe connectors, and more.

4. Lightweight Foaming Series: TPU-LW / ASA-LW / PEBA-LW

  • TPU-LW: Flexible foaming material with adjustable hardness (77A-93A), excellent bending fatigue resistance
  • ASA-LW: Outdoor foaming material with excellent heat resistance (HDT ~80°C) and UV resistance
  • PEBA-LW: Highly elastic foaming material with adjustable elasticity and hardness (66A-92A), rebound rate up to 60%, and ultra-low density as low as 0.48 g/cm³

Foaming materials, with ultra-low density and structural cushioning properties, provide new lightweighting pathways for automotive components—ideal for lightweight jigs, energy-absorbing structures, and exterior decorative parts.

5. Flexible Elastic Series: PEBA Series / TPU Series

Flexible-Elastic-Series-PEBA-Series-TPU-Series

eSUN’s flexible elastic 3D printing material series covers PEBA and TPU, offering a wide hardness range from soft to highly elastic to meet diverse application needs.

With excellent toughness, rebound performance, and fatigue resistance, these materials are widely used in automotive applications—including interior buttons, damping structures, cable clips, sealing components, customized function-verification parts, and rapid prototypes. They maintain stable performance under complex loading and long-term usage conditions, providing efficient and flexible options for automotive parts development.

6. Other Engineering Materials: ASA+ / PC-ESD / PLA-ST / PEEK

  • ASA+: UV-resistant and weather-resistant; suitable for exterior prototype parts
  • PC-ESD: Anti-static, suitable for electronic equipment fixtures and jigs
  • PLA-ST: High toughness, suitable for structural testing parts
  • PEEK: High heat resistance, high strength, and excellent chemical stability; suitable for functional testing under extreme conditions
